ABBA is one of the largest success stories in the world of music. The Swedish pop group comprising Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad, is the second best-selling music group of all-time, just behind Beatles. ABBA is one of the best selling music artists of all time.
Spawning a generation of die-hard fans who continued to watch their videos on Youtube and have them on their music players, the ABBA Fever never dies. The group was at its peak from 1975 to 1982. The group hit it big after winning the Eurovision Contest in 1974 with their hit song ‘Waterloo’. None of the talents from Eurovision has been able to recreate the maniacal craze that Abba commanded.
Abba has sold more than 500 million records. What is more commendable is that it is the first non-English speaking country to enjoy cult success in English speaking countries like UK, USA, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, South Africa and India. Some of their songs like ‘Hasta Manana’ were also recorded in Spanish.
Fältskog was married to Ulvaeus and Lyngstad was married to Andersson during the time the band was its peak. But the relationships suffered and Agnetha eventually broke up with Bjorn in 1979 and Benny’s marriage with Frida broke up in 1981. The changing dynamics in their relationship were reflected in their songs which changed from upbeat and romantic to melancholic and brooding. Nevertheless, the songs were good at all times and it was great till it lasted.
Where is ABBA now?
As much as fans wished that ABBA would regroup, the band members said that they have gone solo for good. ABBA broke up in 1982, Andersson and Ulvaeus went on to writing songs while the women Lyngstad and Faltskog concentrated on their solo music careers.
ABBA’s musical charm continued, with the music featuring in movies like Muriel’s Wedding in 1994, The Adventures of Priscilla – Queen of the Desert (1994) and the musical Mamma Mia!(2008) which became the third biggest grosser of the year.
Where is Anna Frid Lyngstad now?
After ABBA broke up, Frida (born 1945) continued singing solo with a modest degree of success. She officially retired from music with a final album in 1997.
She had married Ragnar Fredriksson, a salesman in 1964 when she was just 18. They had two children, Hans Ragnar (born 1963) and Ann Lise-Lotte (born 1967). After the break-up of ABBA, she continued an international solo singing career with mixed success. In 1997, Frida recorded her final album before ‘retiring’ from music. She now focuses on environmental issues and is increasingly involved in charity work.
In a 2005 interview, Frida says that she missed the ABBA days but has no interest in coming back to the world of music. She lives in Zermatt, Switzerland with her British boyfriend, Henry Smith, a British peer and descendant of the WH Smith Stationery Group. She owns a few homes in London, Yorkshire Dales and Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Where is Agnetha Faltskog now?
As much popular Agnetha Faltskog achieved for her face, body and music, she still considered herself the odd person out in the group. This was partly due to her low self esteem issue and the fact that she couldn’t’ really speak English properly. She had even said in an interview, “I am just a country bumpkin, not a showgirl at all. While others like to party, I prefer keeping to myself.”
It is reported that Faltskog would fear stage so much that she would drink whiskey to perk herself up. She also developed fear of flying since their private jet was caught in a thunderstorm. In 1989, when she was traveling on a coach, it crashed just beyond Stockholm and she was flown out through the window into a cold icy terrain. Since, then she preferred to keep it to herself and distanced away from the world. Besides, her love life turned out to be messy with reports talking about her involvement with an advertising profession, a Swedish ice hockey champion, a fashion designer, her own marriage counselor, a Stockholm-based doctor and a stalker.
Though she led a secluded existence for far too long in Ekero, she finally started coming out in public post 2012. From the looks of it, the girl with the golden hair got over her fear of flying and got control of her life back when she released an album called ‘A’ in 2013. The album has done exceptionally good business with sales exceeding 1 million.
