3rd rock from the sun

  • 3RD Rock from the Sun – This American sitcom aired for five years from 1996 to 2001 on NBC. It was about four extraterrestrials who live as a human family, their main intention being to observe the behavior of people on Planet Earth. The show featured actors like John Lithgow, Kristen Johnston, Jane Curtin and French Stewart. In 1997, 3rd Rock from the Sun won five Emmy Awards out of eight nominations for a TV series.

  • Doogie Howser, M.D. – This popular US comedy-drama series had a unique theme of a teenage doctor who in spite being a genius at his profession, is plagued with the problems of a typical teenager. It started Neil Patrick Harris as the protagonist with Max Casella, Belinda Montogomery and Lawrence Pressman forming the rest of the cast. Doogie Howser, M.D. ran for four seasons from 1989 to 1993, with a total number of 97 episodes.

  • X-files – This cult series cannot be slotted into one genre though science-fiction, thriller, horror-drama, paranormal and conspiracy theories appear as good contenders. The show created by Chris Carter ran from 1993 to 2000 across 9 seasons and 202 episodes. The series involved two FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating X-Files tough cases that usually involve scientific-paranormal angle. The two actors not only went to win multiple awards but they are best represented by X-Files in spite of the movies they have done separately. X-files fans can rejoice because the series return as a six-episode series in mid-2015.

  • Baywatch – The show was the eye-candy of the 90s featuring stars like David Hasselhoff, Yasmeen Bleeth, Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak and more. The action-thriller series revolved around the lives and relationships of Los Angeles County Lifeguards who patrol LA beaches in California. The show actually started miserably and was even canceled after its first season on NBC but then it sustained the low viewership only to turn into one of the most watched TV series of the 90s. The show ran from 1989 to 1999. The plots would involve everything from terrorist attacks, shark attacks, serial killers to earthquakes which these lifeguards put their lives into risk while dealing with their own personal problems.

  • Full House- The cult-feel good American sitcom created by Jeff Franklin still enjoys a terrific repeat value. It was broadcast on ABC and ran from 1987 to 1995 featuring 192 episodes across 8 seasons. The plot involves a widowed father Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) who takes help of his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos) and best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) to raise his three daughters DJ (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). The series had lots of humor and emotional moments, making it a great family watch. On April 20, 2015, Netflix announced that the show would be back as ‘Fuller House’.

  • Friends – The 90s was synonymous with the cult TV sitcom Friends, created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane. It ran on NBC from 1994 to 2004 across ten successful seasons. The show revolves a group of friends who stay together in Manhattan. The show which made stars out of Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc, is also one of the most popular sitcoms of TV history. The finale of Friends which was aired on May 6, 2004 was the fourth most watched TV finale of all time and the most watched episode of the 90s.

  • The Simpsons – The animated sitcom conceived by Matt Groening for Fox Broadcasting was a satire of the middle-class American lifestyle. The characters included Bart, Homer, Lisa, Maggie and Marge staying in a fictional place called Springfield. The show which began on December 1989 is now the longest-running American sitcom and animated series, with more than 570 episodes. It has won many awards which include 31 Primetime Emmy Awards.

NYPD blue tv show

  • NYPD Blue – The police drama set in New York City was based on the personal and professional lives of policemen on the fictitious 15 precinct of Manhattan. The show started on September 21, 1993 before finally concluding on March 1, 1995. It was the longest-running prime-time drama series on ABC. The show was singled out for its gritty and non-compromising portrayals of cops on duty.

  • The Wonder Years – Nothing evokes nostalgia more than this wonderful American comedy coming-of-age drama that revolves around the family and social life of a boy throughout his teenage (from 12 to 17). The serial was based in the times of the late 60s and each year in the series would be shown as taking place 20 years before its actual airing (1998 through 1993). The protagonist Kevin(played by Fred Savage) went on to become the youngest actor nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for a Comedy Series.

  • Beverly Hills 902010 – The American drama series ran for a full-decade from 1990 to 2000 on Fox. It is the first and the most successful part of the Beverly Hills 90210 franchise. It centered on the lives of a group of friends in the upscale neighborhood of Beverly Hills California, as they move from high-school to college and then to the adult world. The show was a huge hit with teenagers and young adults as it touched upon topics like love and romance, substance abuse, domestic violence, animal rights, teenage pregnancies, date-rape, AIDS, winning against all odds etc. Beverly Hills 902010 created stars out of heartthrobs Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Luke Perry. The actresses Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth went on to become big names moving forward.

  • Seinfeld – This hugely popular sitcom ran from 1989 to 1998 and was created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. It revolved around Jerry Seinfeld and his fiends including best friend George Costanza (Jason Alexander), ex-girfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and his neighbor Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards). It had a successful stint from 1994 to 1998 and TV Guide in 2002 called Seinfeld the greatest TV program of all time. E! has called it the number one show of the 90s and Entertainment Weekly has heralded it as the 3rd best TV series of all time.
